Apple says bug in iOS 10.3 may reactivate disabled iCloud services

Apple is sending out emails to a small number of iCloud users informing them of a particular bug and I was 10.3. The bug evidently causes some iCloud services that were previously disabled to be re-enabled.

From the email, obtained by MacRumors:

We discovered a bug in the recent iOS 10.3 software update that impacted a small number of iCloud users. This may have inadvertently reenabled some iCloud services that you had previously disabled on your device.

We suggest you go to iCloud settings on your iOS device to make sure that only the services you’d like to use are enabled. Learn more about how to manage your iCloud settings or contact AppleCare with any questions.

Outside of ”small”, it’s unknown at this time how many iCloud users this may have impacted.

You can check which iCloud services are enabled on your iPhone or iPad with iOS 10.3 by heading to Settings, then tapping the Apple ID banner at the top of the Settings page and tapping iCloud.

What Mac Pro configurations should you buy?

If you’ve decided to pick up the speed-bumped 2017 Mac Pro, what extra configurations should you buy?

Updated April 2017: Included the new pricing structure for the 2017 speed bumped Mac Pro.

I’ll be frank: Unless you fit into a few, very specific categories, I don’t particularly recommend buying a 2017 speed-bumped Mac Pro. That said, there are a few who are going to want to pick up this version of Apple’s aging pro tower before the company has a chance to reinvent it — and if you’re one of them, here’s what you want to take into account.

More for your money

While officially the 2013-chassis Mac Pro hasn’t been discounted, you now get a lot more system for your money than you once did. While it works on the next generation of Mac Pro, Apple has essentially discounted formerly paid upgrades by $1000+, making them the default option for new buyers. The $3999 system is now available for just $2999, and a fully-upgraded kit will cost you less overall. It’s worth noting that…

How to add or change Nintendo Accounts in the eShop on your Switch

You can link up to eight Nintendo Accounts to one Switch, each with different personal settings and save data, and everyone can play the same games!

If you’ve got a house full of Switch players, each person can sign in with their own Nintendo Account, which lets you customize your profile settings, access online game modes, redeem your My Nintendo rewards, and purchase content from the eShop with you’re own payment options. The best part is, all of the games anyone purchases on one Switch using their Nintendo Account can be shared by everyone. So, if you’re sharing one Switch with a couple of roommates, you can all benefit from each roomy’s purchases. Here’s how to add and switch between Nintendo Accounts.

How to add additional Nintendo Accounts to your Switch

Before you can add additional Nintendo Accounts, you’ll need separate user profiles for each account. Once you have created the profile, follow the steps below.

Select System Settings from the Home screen of your Nintendo S…

Should you buy (or upgrade to) a 2017 Mac Pro?

The 2013 all-in-one just received a minor update — but is it enough to warrant a new machine?

After years of languishing in a dark, sad cave of a webpage on Apple’s site, the 2013-era Mac Pro has at last seen a small spec bump. But with new Mac Pros on the horizon, is it worth buying this upgraded Mac Pro?

What’s been upgraded?

The external casing of the Mac Pro remains the same for its 2017 update: The only bits that have been upgraded are the computer’s CPU and GPU.

Before, $2999 would get you a 3.7 GHz Intel 4-core Xeon processor; now, for the same price you’ll get a 3.5 GHz 6-core processor with 12MB of L3 cache.

You’ll also see an upgrade to the Mac Pro’s internal graphics cards — moving from AMD’s D300 dual graphics processors to the company’s D500 chips with 3GB of GDDR5 VRAM.

As before, you can spend more to upgrade the Mac Pro to a 2.7GHz Intel 12-core Xeon processor, graphics to dual AMD FirePro D700 GPUs with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM, and up to 64GB of…

You can now get your hands on the slightly updated Mac Pro

Apple has pulled the trigger and is now offering Mac Pro models with modest spec bumps in its online store. These minor updates offer slightly more powerful CPUs and GPUs than were previously available on the base models of Apple’s professionally-focused desktop.

The base model Mac Pro now starts at $2,999 with a 6-core Intel Xeon E5 processor (up from a 4-core CPU) clocked at 3.5GHz, along with 16GB of RAM and dual AMD FirePro D500 graphics processors with 3GB of VRAM each. The $3,999 model, meanwhile, now starts with an 8-core (up from six) Xeon E5 clocked at 3.0GHz, as well as 16GB of RAM and dual FirePro D700 GPUs with 6GB of VRAM each.

This modest bump improvement in the Mac Pro hardware comes after Apple announced that it was completely rethinking the Mac Pro, with a new model of the desktop currently in development. However, the company says that this model will not ship this year. In the meantime, Apple has given a minor update to the current Mac Pro, and it says tha…

How to set up and use iCloud Drive on Windows 10

It’s easy to get your Apple files on your Windows 10 PC. Here’s one way to do it.

Apple would like people to use its devices and platforms exclusively, but it at least acknowledges the sheer number of Windows users around the world. Using an iPhone or iPad and a Windows machine isn’t at all uncommon, and as such, iTunes and the core iCloud services are available on Windows 10.

One of those services is the iCloud Drive storage service. It’s pretty easy to get up and running with Apple’s cloud storage on your Windows PC. Here’s how.

This story was originally published in September 2015, but we recently refreshed it for April 2017.

Download, install and set up iCloud for Windows

Before you do anything you need to have iCloud for Windows installed and set up. The good news is that it’s an easy enough process. The even better news is that our sister site Windows Central has a complete guide to walk you through it, step by step:

Why Apple needed to come clean about the new, new Mac Pro

Fixing the Mac Pro will take another year or so. Fixing the perception in the market only took a couple days.

It happens to everyone. You decide on an ambitious new project, maybe turning the basement into an amazing movie room, joining a gym and getting into shape, or finally finishing the dream car you’ve been fixing up in your garage. But it doesn’t go exactly as you planned. And so minor problems are procrastinated into major delays and you start finding, even making, excuses to spend your limited time and effort on things that are more important and provide more immediate gratification.

It shouldn’t happen to companies like Apple, but it does. The need to get the supercomputer used by 1% of your customers updated gets continuously pushed aside by the need to ship the new pocket computer used by billions. And as time passes, pressure builds.

Case-in-the-news-point, the new Mac Pro which has just become the old Mac Pro with word that Apple’s working on its replacement.

On Sous Vide, Your iPhone, and Cooking Food to Perfection

Cook your food to tender, delicious, juicy perfection with a sous vide setup!

Sous vide, which literally translates to ”under vacuum,” is a cooking method whereby food is sealed in a plastic pouch or bag and slow-cooked using a temperature-controlled water bath. Many of the most common methods for cooking food — in a pan on the stove, in the oven, on the grill, in the microwave, etc. — are imprecise and often result in a lot of moisture loss (especially in meats). There’s nothing worse than an overcooked steak or dried out fried potatoes (especially together!); the vacuum-based sous vide cooking method keeps your steak’s juices in place and prevents your potatoes from drying out.

The method’s seemingly magical (and damned delicious) output has made sous vide popular outside of five-star restaurants; and as the method’s popularity continues to grow, so too does the market of sous vide products — and yes, that includes ”smart” products.
