Game of the week: Gorogoa

Simple, beautiful, and puzzling; Gorogoa is a perfect 10 out of 10!

Technically, Gorogoa came out last week, while I was writing my overview of Oddworld: New n’ Tasty, but the game is truly a masterpiece and I couldn’t live with myself if I skipped over it for a second time.

Although Gorogoa went live just under the wire, it’s easily one of my favorite games of 2017, and you can bet your bottom dollar I will be telling everyone I know to play it.

$4.99 – Download Now

Big concept

I think the most difficult part about trying to tell you how fantastic Gorogoa is to play, is that the concept behind the game sounds unbelievable. A hand-drawn puzzle game where you’re tasked with moving people, buildings, fruit, and various other objects across four comic book-like panels that transcend time and space. Is your head spinning yet? Add in the fact that there is absolutely no dialogue, the game starts with no instructions or tutorial, and you have yourself one confusing game to pitch to …

Apple is working on an Apple Watch with a built-in EKG heart monitor

According to Bloomberg, future Apple Watches will have a built-in EKG monitor, allowing users to keep a closer eye on their heart health.

Want to keep a better eye on the ol’ ticker? According to a report by Alex Webb for Bloomberg, Apple is working on developing an EKG feature for future models of the Apple Watch that will allow users to detect arrhythmias and other potentially dangerous heart issues. This is hardly a surprise, as Apple announced their plans to put more into researching irregular heart rhythms with Stanford Medicine back in November. As noted by Webb, data acquired through this research may help Apple in developing Apple Watch tools that can ”spot abnormalities more easily and support the EKG project.”

Bloomberg’s report goes on to further describe how exactly the feature currently works in testing:

A version being tested requires users to squeeze the frame of the Apple Watch with two fingers from the hand that’s not wearing the device. It then passes an imper…

What’s a RAID array and why should I get one?

RAID? Like to kill ants? Nawp! Here’s what RAID is and what it means to you.

I know, all I hear is the ant queen from the commercials too. But we’re not talking about that kind of Raid; we’re talking RAID. It’s been around since the 80s, and you may have heard it tossed around if you’ve spent any time around PCs, but what does it mean and why does it matter to you now?

Welcome to the RAID parade.

What is RAID?

RAID stands for Redundant Array of Inexpensive/independent Disks. It was created in 1988 as a means to combat the rising cost of disk drives. The creators argued that a line of inexpensive disks could outperform one expensive one. Basically, it’s a row of hard drives (an array!) that join together to perform like one macdaddy hard drive. It’s basically the Voltron of hard drives.

You’ll often hear RAID as it relates to network attached storage or ”NAS”. You know in movies when you see the ”mainframe” and it’s rows and rows of hard drives backing up all of the evil corporat…
