Playdead’s INSIDE review: There is beauty in death

Fans of Limbo definitely need to check out Inside for even more melancholy beauty.

Playdead’s follow-up to Limbo, Inside, was a big hit on gaming consoles last year. It’s similar enough to its predecessor to win the hearts of Limbo fans, but also different enough to give you a brand new experience. It’s filled with dozens of trigger-action puzzles to keep you on your toes and has an even more bizarrely dark storyline than Limbo.

I spent the weekend playing through much of the game and have some thoughts.

Download in the App Store
Note: Inside is only compatible with devices with 2GB of RAM, which include iPhone 6s or newer and iPad Air 2 and newer, as well as Apple TV 4th-generation and newer.

The story, the setting, and the dark minds of the game developers

Of course, I don’t want to give anything away about Inside, so I’m not going to go into details about the storyline, but it’s one of the most important parts of the game, so I have to talk about it a little.

You are contr…

How do I sell my Mac? We’ve got some tips to make sure it’s easy to do!

There comes a time in every Mac’s life when it’s time to say goodbye. Maybe it’s time to move up to the iMac Pro. Maybe it no longer has that new Mac sparkle you crave. Maybe it’s just old and busted. No matter what the reason, it’s time to part ways.

Here are some tips on what you can do to unload your old Mac.

Add storage without replacing your phone.

The iPhone is great in many ways, but one flaw has always been its lack of removable storage. You are stuck with the one you buy, and there have only been a few ways to ”add storage” to it. Best Touchscreen Gloves for Winter 2017

What are the best touchscreen gloves? The ones that keep your hands warm and actually work!

There are still a few weeks left in winter, and that means that using your phone outside is uncomfortable and makes for frigid digits. That is, unless you have some awesome touchscreen gloves that let you use your phone with toasty phalanges.

Not all gloves of this nature work very well, so here are the best of the best to keep you texting even when Jack Frost is nipping at your butt.

Mujjo double-layered touchscreen gloves

Mujjo double-layered touchscreen gloves

These dual-layer gloves are Mujjo’s response to customers asking for something a bit thicker for colder climes. They added a layer of wool (just like grandma used to do!), so you can now have your phone and keep your hands warm too. For $35, that’s not a bad deal at all.

Which iMac Pro should you get?

8, 10, 14, or 18 cores of sheer power: Which Intel Xeon W processor should you get for your new iMac Pro?

Forget the aging Mac Pro: Apple’s iMac Pro has the fastest, most capable processors in a desktop Macintosh. When configuring your machine, you can choose from 8-, 10-, 14-, or 18-core Intel Xeon W processors; these processors are designed to handle heavy rendering tasks without needing the power of the full-fledged Xeon CPU.

iMac Pro review: Beauty of a beast

But which of these monster processors is right for your pro rendering needs? Let’s take a look.

Let’s talk about Intel’s Xeon W processor

As mentioned above, the Xeon W is designed as a workstation-class processor: It fits between the heavy-hitting (and power-consuming) Xeon CPU and the iMac-powering Core i7 consumer processors.

Here’s what Anandtech had to say about Xeon W:

The consumer Core i7 has fewer PCIe lanes and the most limited DRAM support, but it’s the cheapest. Conversely, the Xeon Gold CPU is easily th…

New data suggests iOS limits device performance based on battery age

Is iOS degrading your device’s performance based on your battery’s age?

Geekbench, a computer and mobile device benchmarking service, has offered some evidence that iOS might be slowing down the processor in your iPhone or iPad once your battery hits a certain age. People with older iPhone have been recording lower-than-expected results in GeekBench 4, causing the company to investigate.

Testing on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 using multiple versions of iOS, Geekbench was able to notice degraded performance in their tests on the phones with older batteries and newer firmware. Geekbench theorizes why this is happening:

Second, the problem is due, in part, to a change in iOS. The difference between 10.2.0 and 10.2.1 is too abrupt to be just a function of battery condition. I believe (as do others) that Apple introduced a change to limit performance when battery condition decreases past a certain point.

Apple acknowledged the sudden shutdown issue that affected the iPhone 6 and…

Best MacBook

The 13-inch MacBook Pro is the best MacBook you can buy today. It balances power with portability and performance with price

Best overall

13-inch MacBook Pro

See at Apple

The 13-inch MacBook Pro can currently be maxed out with a 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7 ”Kabylake” processor and Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650, 16 GB of 2133MHz memory, and up to 1 TB of solid-state storage. It includes a 13.3-inch 2560 x 1600 Retina display, which means the pixels are so dense they disappear at normal viewing distances, and Apple’s new Force Touch trackpad, which simulates both standard trackpad clicks, and also enables secondary Force Clicks and pressure sensitive drawing. There’s also an option for Touch Bar and Touch ID, the latter of which is incredibly convenient for everything from logging in to authenticating Apple Pay. Thanks to Kaby Lake, it can also hardware accelerate next-generation HEVC (H.265) video. Also now available in silver and space gray.

Starts at $1299.
