iFixit’s teardown of the 10.2-inch iPad

There’s a whole lot of adhesive in this year’s iPad…

What you need to know

Apple’s new 10.2-inch iPad launched yesterday
iFixit has released a teardown of the new device.
It scored a woeful 2 out of 10 for fixability.
Following yesterday’s release of the brand new 10.2-inch iPad in stores, iFixit has released the findings of its teardown of the new device. They were able to confirm some of the things we learned at launch about the device, as well as a few new finds within the new iPad.

Of course, there’s the ancient A10 Fusion processor from 2016, Retina display, 8MP 1080p rear-facing camera and the 1.2MP 720p FaceTime HD Camera. Otherwise however, the device remains pretty much the same internally as the previous version, with an extra GB of Ram and a Smart Connector for Smart Keyboards. Most interestingly, the battery is exactly the same as last year despite the much increased housing size of the new device.

According to the final run down, the non-laminated, seperately repla…

New exploit could lead to permanent jailbreak on iPhone X and older

The exploit is aptly named checkm8.

What you need to know

An exploit called checkm8 has been released for iPhone 4S through iPhone X.
The exploit could potentially lead to a permanent jailbreak.
Work still needs to be done for a jailbreak to happen.
The days of jailbreaking are long gone — or so we thought. An exploit was shared on Friday that reports say could lead to a permanent jailbreak on devices with an A5 chip (iPhone 4S) to an A11 chip (iPhone X).

The exploit was revealed on Twitter by user axi0mX, who shared a link on Github.

EPIC JAILBREAK: Introducing checkm8 (read ”checkmate”), a permanent unpatchable bootrom exploit for hundreds of millions of iOS devices. Most generations of iPhones and iPads are vulnerable: from iPhone 4S (A5 chip) to iPhone 8 and iPhone X (A11 chip). https://t.co/dQJtXb78sG— axi0mX (@axi0mX) September 27, 2019

The tool shared by axi0mX isn’t a full jailbreak — that would require additional work. Rather, it’s just an exploit. But…

Could Apple light up its logo to signal notifications?

Could this be the future of notifications?

What you need to know

An Apple patent shows how it could use your device’s logo to show notifcations.
Different decorations on a device give wide variety of options.
Could work with any Apple device.
A patent published Thursday has revealed that Apple is exploring the possibility of using its logo as a means to signal notifications on its devices. The patent covers the iPhone but also shows how the feature could improve other devices such as the MacBook. The patent, titled ”Electronic Devices with Adjustable Decoration” and picked up by Apple Insider details how a decorative piece could be added to casing, in the form of a company logo or a piece of trim.

This would be transparent with an optical component to alter the appearance, adding tint, haze, mirroring and more. This would all be connected to the device and controlled via the operating system. In practice, this could mean that a devices Apple logo could be controlled by iOS or ma…

Yes, you’ll still be able to use amiibo with the new Nintendo Switch Lite

Best Answer: Yes, the Nintendo Switch Lite will still support amiibo, it doesn’t matter whether it’s old or new either. Just tap an amiibo figure on the right control stick, and it will interact with a compatible game. No hassle, and it’s as easy to do as on the original Nintendo Switch.

Pre-order the Switch Lite: Nintendo Switch Lite ($200 at Amazon)
The Nintendo Switch Lite works with my current amiibo collection?

That is 100% correct. While the Switch Lite does away with a lot of other features from the regular Switch, such as the HD Rumble and IR Motion Camera support in the controller or TV output, you’ll still be able to use amiibo figurines. It doesn’t matter whether they’re old or new either; if it’s an amiibo, then it’s most likely compatible with the Switch Lite.

Just like the normal Switch, all you need to do is tap an amiibo figure on top of the right control stick. If you’re playing a game that has amiibo support, the amiibo will interact with the game as originally i…
