NatGeo Photog Brian Skerry thinks iPhone photographers are great

Take great photos, no matter what you are using.

Few of us have what it takes to put our bodies a hundred feet underwater for several hours in order to get a single photo of a rare sea critter, but this National Geographic Photographer is exactly that person. His days are long, physically exhausting in ways most of us will never know, and involve traveling to extreme and beautiful locations all around the world. And if you’ve ever seen any of the incredible work he’s published, your life is richer for it.

But, when he’s not at work, Brian has an iPhone in his pocket. And when I saw that, I wanted to know what he had to say about those of us who use our phones as our primary cameras. Unsurprisingly, he loves it.

I think, ultimately, anything that helps you make a picture that satisfies your crative juices or helps you tell a story or lets you show your friends a cool thing, having a device you can take anywhere like that, is a great thing. There’s nothing wrong with that, I thin…

iPadOS 14 Wishlist: Beyond just better mouse support

This time last year we had new, incredibly powerful iPad Pro hardware, but what we didn’t have was the iOS software to truly unlock all of its potential.

iOS 12 had been, in large part, a performance and stability release, and I loved that. Loved it so much I’m going to repeat the need to repeat it every year basically ad nauseam Infinitum until it happens.

But, we were missing things. Especially things that would let the iPad be the iPad. I’d been asking for an iPadOS for like 5 years. Something that would keep the iOS underpinnings but let the experience be as unique, the way the watch and TV had been treated basically since launch.

And… just when I’d all but given up hope, Apple gave it to us. iPadOS. Along with many of the features many of us had been asking for since Steve Jobs had first sat down with it in that big comfy chair.

Most of the features… but not all of them, and not all the way. Just the other day I wrote about the return to focus on reliability and perfor…

The audio lineup has been overhauled for 2020, from improvements in industrial design to audio quality to branding. The highlight is the new high-end VIZIO Elevate Sound Bar. It’s got Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. And it has speakers that rotate depending on the sound profile. It’s a really cool thing to hear, and sort of space-age to see in practice. And the sound? Spectacular….
