Set up and use Face ID on your new iPhone or iPad Pro

Here are the ins and outs of using Face ID for everything from unlocking your iPhone or iPad Pro to auto-filling passwords in Safari.

Starting with the iPhone X, Apple moved on to Face ID for biometric authorization on most devices, replacing Touch ID. Face ID allows you to unlock your iPhone or iPad Pro with just your face, instead of your fingerprint. You could even use it to authorize Apple Pay payments, confirm iTunes and App Store purchases, activate autofill in Safari, and so much more. Plus, a lot of third-party apps support Face ID as an extra layer of security too.

Face ID is only available on devices that lack a Home (or side button in the case of the newer iPad Air models) and also use the TrueDepth camera system. With the TrueDepth cameras, there are a few cool tricks that Face ID can do, such as requiring your full, undivided attention.

Here’s how to set up Face ID on your best iPhone and iPad.

iOS gaming recap: PlayStation makes big moves into iOS, Streets of Rage 4

Our tips on what to play this week, plus a peek at PlayStation’s iOS game plans.

Suddenly the App Store’s awash with big-name new games, including one called Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion, but we’ll get to that later.

And outside of new games, we learned this week that PlayStation is planning to make mobile games a big part of its future. So let’s get stuck in, shall we?

Streets of Rage 4 is a knockout

Is this one of the best retro revivals ever made? We reckon so. Plenty has changed in the whopping 25 years since Streets of Rage 3 and this fourth game, but the thrill of whacking fools with a big metal pipe remains the same.

Streets of Rage 4 is a masterful revival of what made those classic Sega Genesis games so beloved, modernised expertly to satisfy today’s tastes. The combat is simple enough to get anyone started, and its easy combos, throws and specials will feel nice and familiar, especially if you pick series figurehead Axel.

Then, as the enemies get more demanding, t…

Barnes & Noble wants to save you from iPad reading with its new e-reader

What you need to know

Barnes & Noble has announced a new e-reader in the form of the Nook GlowLight 4e.
The new Kindle competitor will sell for $119.99 and pre-orders are now open.
The new device has a 6-inch E ink screen.

If you want an e-reader and don’t want a Kindle, there’s a new option in town.

Apple’s iPads are great at all kinds of things but they’re not particularly good at being e-readers, probably because that isn’t what they are. Amazon’s Kindle is a particularly good e-reader and now it has some new competition in the form of Barnes & Noble’s Nook GlowLight 4e.

Designed to be a cheaper version of the existing GlowLight 4, this new offering will set buyers back $119.99 and they can pre-order it now. For their money they’ll get an E Ink display that comes in at 6 inches and 212 ppi, according to The Verge’s report. It’s powered by USB-C and has 8GB of internal storage, which is fair if not groundbreaking. The product is more costly than the Kindle’s $89.99 as…

People can invite others to join their Stories and those people can invite their friends, too.

People can invite others to join their Snapchat Story and those people can then invite yet more people.

Snapchat has announced Shared Stories, a feature that is designed to allow people to invite other people to add content to their stories. Unlike the previous Custom Stories feature, Shared Stories allow people who have been invited to then invite their own friends, too.

The idea, it seems, is for some sort of Snapchat thread that includes multiple people who don’t necessarily know each other. It’s like the seven degrees of Kevin Bacon, but for short-form video, if you will.

Shared Stories is a new iteration of Custom Stories, a product that previously allowed Snapchatters to create a Story and add friends to view and contribute. Now, with our new and improved Shared Stories, Snapchatters who’ve been added…

You can shoot and edit like a pro with RAW format on your iPhone!

Take your professional photo editing skills on the go with these great photo editors and camera apps that can deal with RAW photos!

For a lot of us, the iPhone is our primary camera. After all, it’s always with us, allowing us to capture even the most spontaneous moments. However, others may prefer to use something like a DSLR, and if so, then RAW image files are the way to go. That’s because RAW is the highest level of quality when it comes to photos since it keeps all image data and gives photographers the most control when it comes to the editing process.

Ever since the iPhone 7 series, you don’t need the best digital camera to shoot in RAW, because Apple added that capability to the iPhone. In fact, Apple even created its own image format, ProRAW (only available on iPhone 12/13 Pro), which is more like a hybrid of the standard JPEG/HEIC and RAW format. However, the idea is still the same with standard RAW images — the highest quality with all image data, allowing for total co…
