Seeing ”Waiting” on your tracks? Here’s how to update your iCloud Music Library

Are there tracks in iTunes that just won't upload to iCloud Music Library? Here's how to force an update.

iCloud Music Library's offerings are great: You can stream and download any of your Mac's songs to any of your other devices, and if you're subscribed to Apple Music, you can even do the same for any song from the streaming catalog. But unsurprisingly, something so ambitious isn't without its bugs.

My latest Apple Music/iTunes Match/iCloud Music Library troubleshooting tip is all about tracks in iTunes that seem to forever be stuck "Waiting" to upload. If you've got tracks that don't seem to want to talk with iCloud, but you don't necessarily want or need to reboot your entire iCloud Music Library, here's how to fix it.

How to get "Waiting" tracks in iTunes to upload to iCloud Music Library

  1. In iTunes, go to File > Library > Update iCloud Music Library.
  2. The Activity dialog will appear in the upper right corner, tracking iCloud Music Library's status.

  3. Your "Waiting" tracks should shortly be uploaded or matched to the iTunes/Apple Music catalog (depending on whether you have iTunes Match or Apple Music).

Questions?

After you run the update function, you may need to wait a few minutes for the server to talk with your computer; if your tracks' status still don't change within the hour, it might be worth considering wiping and rebooting your iCloud Music Library.
