VLC media player app will be coming to the new Apple TV

You can add another app that's being made for the new Apple TV set-top box. The VideoLAN team is working to develop their popular, and free, VLC media player app so it will work on tvOS.

VideoLAN's lead developer Jean-Baptiste Kempf quietly posted the reveal on his blog:

"Finally, some code to build VLCKit for the new tvOS was merged. It's very early though, but we have video playback!"

There's no word on when VLC will be launched for the new Apple TV, but since the set-top box itself isn't due for release until sometime in late October, the VideoLAN team would seem to have some time to develop it before it launches.
