PlayStation Messages lets you chat with your PSN friends with ease

Sony has launched PlayStation Messages, giving you the ability to connect with your friends on the PlayStation Network directly from your iPhone.

Previously bundled in the PlayStation app, Sony mentions that Messages was broken out into a standalone client featuring a more streamlined design — optimized for the iPhone 6s Plus —"in order to get you into your Messages and communicating with your friends faster than ever before." Needless to say, you're going to need a valid PSN account to use the messaging service.

Here's the breakdown of what's on offer with PlayStation Messages:

  • Check your Friends List to instantly see who's online and what they're playing.
  • Send text or voice messages as well as photos and stickers to your friends or a group with up to 100 players.
  • Quickly access your favorite message groups from your favorites list.

PlayStation Messages is great if you're looking to send a quick message to your friends without having to navigate the information-dense PlayStation app. The move is similar to what Facebook has done with Messenger, which has racked up over 700 million users since it was launched as a standalone client.
