How to use the Podcast app on the new Apple TV

You can now listen to your favorite podcasts on Apple TV.

Apple TV recently updated tvOS to version 9.1.1, which brings with it support for the Podcast app. Now, you can access your subscriptions, or find new content on your TV screen It's easy to get started. Here's how.

How to manually download tvOS 9.1.1

The first thing you will need to do is ensure that you have tvOS 9.1.1 installed on Apple TV.

Open the Settings app.
Select System.
Select Software Updates.
Click Update Software.

If you have automatic software updates available, the upgrade to 9.1.1 will take place automatically.

How to listen to podcasts you subscribe to on Apple TV

Just like listening to podcasts in iTunes, you can tune in to titles you subscribe to, access unplayed content, or search for new podcasts to check out. The app will automatically sync subscriptions from iTunes through iCloud.

Open the Podcast app.
Make sure your Siri Remote is selecting the top portion of the screen.
Click on My Podcasts.
Select a podcast.
Click Play.

Your podcast will begin playing. You can also access podcasts you subscribe to from the Unplayed section.

How to subscribe to new podcasts on Apple TV

Just like the Podcast section of iTunes, Apple highlights new and popular titles. Plus, there are curated playlists based on topics like True Crime, Parenting, and Movie Fanatics. Once you've found a title you like, you can add it to your regular listening schedule.

Open the Podcast app.
Make sure your Siri Remote is at the top of the screen.
Click on Featured.
Browse content.
Select a podcast.
Click on Subscribe right below the podcast title.

You can also simply listen to content without having to subscribe.
