STARZ launches standalone streaming service alongside new Apple TV app

STARZ has launched a new standalone streaming service for iOS and Apple TV, following up on similar services from competitors Showtime and HBO. With the new STARZ app, users can purchase a standalone subscription to the service for $8.99 a month and gain access to all of STARZ's content on their iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.

As for the new apps, STARZ supports universal search on the Apple TV, along with downloads for offline viewing on iPhone and iPad. And to celebrate the launch, STARZ says that it will make the debut episode of Outlander's second season available for streaming on April 7, two days ahead of its official premier.

While the service is targeted towards cord cutters, those who are already subscribed to STARZ through their cable package can simply login and stream without any extra charge. If you're interested, you can download the new STARZ app, which comes as an update to the old STARZ Play app, for iPhone an iPad below. Apple TV users can get the new app via the set-top box's App Store.
