Apple hires engineer behind BMW and Mercedes satellite navigation systems

Apple has hired Sinisa Durekovic, a satellite navigation engineer who has previously worked on systems used by several luxury carmakers. According to Bloomberg, Durekovic landed at Apple last October in an unknown role.

Apple Inc. has hired Sinisa Durekovic, a software engineer who led the development of satellite navigation systems used by luxury carmakers including BMW AG, Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen AG's Audi.
Durekovic, who joined Apple in an unspecified role in October, was principal architect and then chief engineer for navigation at Harman International Industries Inc., whose systems are used by a slew of carmakers.
While it's unclear what Durekovic may be working on at Apple, it's likely that it has something to do with Maps or CarPlay given his background.
Maps in particular is of interest, as Apple has continued to focus on steady improvements to the platform. Most recently, the tech giant outlined plans for a development center in India that will see 4,000 employees dedicated to developing Maps.
