Apple’s patent case against Samsung may end up going back to the trial court

Back in December, Apple's patent litigation with Samsung culminated in a $548 million settlement, but the South Korean vendor immediately filed a motion to the Supreme Court to overturn the verdict. Apple countered, but the Supreme Court agreed in March to listen to Samsung's case.
Today, the Justice Department filed an amicus brief asking the Supreme Court to overturn its ruling, and send the case back to the trial court. From Reuters
In its amicus brief on Wednesday, the Justice Department said it was unclear whether Samsung had produced enough evidence to support its argument that phone components, not the entire phone, should be what matters when calculating damages.
The Supreme Court should send the case back for the trial court to determine whether a new trial is warranted on that issue, the Justice Department said.
The Supreme Court will make a decision shortly. We'll have more to share once we know more, but for now, it looks like the patent litigation is not close to coming to a conclusion.
