How do I check how much space I have on my iPhone or iPad?

Have you ever taken a picture or downloaded an app, and come up with a message that tells you there isn't enough space on your device to install or save?

Your storage space is precious, so here's how to check if you have room to grow or should cool it on the app downloads!

How to check the storage space on your iPhone and iPad

You can see how much storage space is being taken up on your iPhone or iPad at any time.

  1. Launch the Settings app from your Home screen.
  2. Tap General.

  3. Tap Storage & iCloud Usage.
  4. You can see the Used and Available Storage displayed near the top of the screen.

How to check an app's storage space on your iPod and iPad

You can also, specifically, which apps are using your storage space.

  1. Launch the Settings app from your Home screen.
  2. Tap General.

  3. Tap Storage & iCloud Usage.
  4. Tap Manage Storage.

You can now scroll to see which apps take up the most amount of space on your iPhone or iPad.

How to delete apps and storage and free up space on your iPhone and iPad

If you want to free up storage by deleting an app and its contents, you can do that right from Settings. Media apps will sometimes also let you delete specific content, like movies, TV shows, or podcasts.

  1. Launch the Settings app from your Home screen.
  2. Tap General.

  3. Tap Storage & iCloud Usage.
  4. Tap Manage Storage.

  5. Tap on the app you want to delete.
  6. Tap on Delete App to remove the app and clear its storage.

If an app has specific content you can delete:

  1. Tap on the app with content you want to delete.
  2. Swipe from right to left to reveal the Delete button.
  3. Tap on the Delete button.
