So what's new with the camera?

Plenty of stuff – the most impressive being an all new dual-lens camera for the iPhone 7 Plus with one wide angle lens and one telephoto lens that shoot as one for high-res optical zoom; four dual-LED flashes on the rear camera that put out 50% more light (and can change LED flashes to warm and cool colors); and a quality bump for the front facing camera from 5MP to 7MP.

Another new feature for the iPhone 7 Plus, specifically, is the portrait option that will be displayed alongside your panorama and slow-mo options on your camera.

The portrait option works specifically with depth of field and can be generated in real time, something a DSLR or more expensive camera cannot do. When you take a picture, you can use an ISP to scan the screen and create a depth map to keep the people in the front sharp and in focus and the background slightly blurred to give an almost 3D, professional tweak to your photo.

This software will be free and available for all iPhone 7 Plus users.

The dual camera for the iPhone 7 Plus comes with two lenses – a telephoto and a wide angle lens. Because of this, zooming in on images will no longer distort and ruin the photo quality. Rather, users will now have more creative control on cropping, shooting, and zooming with videos or photos with their iPhone 7 Plus.

A new zoom button can be tapped to zoom in on your photo as you capture it. If you continue to use the telephoto lens and go beyond 2x, you begin to use software zoom.

Is the image quality any better?

The camera itself is now 60% faster and 30% more energy efficient with a flicker sensor to read the perfect lighting in the room. Serious photographers can now capture RAW DND files if they choose and use this setting with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus' high-speed sensor.

Depth of field is also a new concept that's being played with with the iPhone 7 Plus' camera. When you take pictures, you now have the option to shoot with a specific portrait setting that will be found amongst the time-lapse and square photo options. This will add a crisp, clear effect to the front portion of your photo, while blurring the background, similar to what a professional DSLR camera can do.
