How to set up and use the Apple TV Remote on your Apple Watch

With the Remote app on your Apple Watch, you can control your Apple TV right from your wrist.
The Remote App for Apple Watch works similarly to the Remote app for iPhone, but you don't have to download it from the App Store — it's built right in. With Remote, you can pair with your Apple TV — or iTunes on your computer — and use your Watch just like the hardware remote. Menu, select, pause, play, skip forward or back, it's all there. All you have to do is set it up first.
How to set up the Remote app for Apple Watch with your Apple TV
- On your Apple Watch, press the Digital Crown to go to the home screen. (If you're not there already.)
- Tap on the Remote app.
- Tap Add Device to get your passcode.
- On your Apple TV, press and hold down the Menu button to go to the home screen. (If you're not there already.)
- Click on Settings.
- Click on General.
- Click on Remotes.
- Click on Select to Add, next to the name of your Apple Watch.
- Enter the passcode.
- Click on Done.
An Apple TV icon will appear in the Remote app on your Apple Watch. (If it doesn't, rebooting one or both can get it to appear.)
How to use the Remote app for Apple Watch with your Apple TV
- Press the Digital Crown to go to the home screen. (If you're not there already.)
- Tap on the Remote app.
- Tap on the Apple TV icon to connect to your Apple TV.
- Swipe up, down, left, or right to move through the Apple TV interface.
- Tap the anywhere on the screen to select.
- Tap the list button at the top left to return to the device selector screen.
- Tap on the Menu button to go back up a level.
- Tap on play/pause to start and stop video or audio playback.
How to remove an Apple TV from the Apple Watch Remote app
- Press the Digital Crown to go to the home screen. (If you're not there already.)
- Tap on the Remote app.
- Press firmly on the screen to bring up the options menu.
- Tap on Edit.
- Tap on the X button next to the device icon you want to remove.
- Tap on the Checkmark button to finish.
How to remove an Apple Watch from Apple TV remotes
- On your Apple TV, press and hold down the Menu button to go to the home screen. (If you're not there already.)
- Click on Settings.
- Click on General.
- Click on Remotes.
- Click on the name of your Apple Watch.
- Click on Remove.
